Scared Shitless

I’ve gone on record before as saying the American people elected President Obama based on his ‘likability’ rather than by judging him based on his successes in the business and political worlds. Now, after being in office for a year, he’s accomplished very little besides making empty promises and meaningless speeches.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, recent events have revealed that Obama’s administration can’t even manage to look like they know what they’re doing anymore. As we’ve all heard by now, it took Obama three days to even make a statement about Christmas Day’s attempted terror plot. Then when he finally did manage to take a quick break from his Hawaiian vacation, he might as well not have bothered. His first response was that the plot was the result of a flawed system. Well…he should know. He’s the one who let the guys out of Guantanamo Bay who are now in Yemen training future terrorists. So essentially the same guys that the Bush administration managed to keep us safe from are now free and once again plotting attacks against American soil. The flawed system is a system that he created!
To make matters even worse, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano apparently has no idea what’s going on either. She first issued a statement saying, “One thing I’d like to point out is that the system worked.” The next day, she retracted the statement, saying instead, “Our system did not work in this instance.” Are you kidding me? Where are all the people who are supposed to make sure the administration issues a clear, consistent message? Not only is our President and administration incompetent, but they have now also lost the ability to keep up the appearance of competency. If that goes out the window, what’s left??
America should be run like a business. And in business, leaders must take responsibility and lead…or die by the choices they make. If America were being run like a business, a CEO would be fired for waiting three days to respond to a companywide crisis. If America were being run like a business, there would be a whole lot of heads on the chopping block right now. Executives would be made to answer for the kind of incompetency that has been exhibited by the leaders of our country over the past couple of weeks. It scares the shit out of me, as an American citizen, that that’s not happening.
I disagree…… 1. yes he is been in office for a year but you have to think about the shit load of a mess Bush left behind for Obama to fix.
It is going to take more than 1 year to see any changes if we will ever see them, but them again there has not been one too many presidents that are able to keep their word or promises to the public.
The Country was already messed up way before Obama came into the picture. Thanks to Bush.
Obama is the product of a great marketing campaign. America (not I) was dooped. Hopefully the we will wake up and elect someone with conviction and balls next time.
Mr. Zimmerman,
Even though I agree with most of what you say on your blog, I think if the Presidency was run like a business George Bush would have been fired much faster than Barack Obama.
George Bush, who with his rubber-stamp Harvard MBA did not manage one successful business venture before entering politics; managed to drop the ball on immigration, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy, foreign relations, and reducing the size of government (among other things).
Also, in regards to electing a person based on his/her likability, that is just how politics works. If I remember correctly, George Bush was seen as the person you would ‘want to have a beer with,’ while Al Gore/John Kerry were seen as lifeless stiffs.
I agree that the country should be run like a business and any profits should be given back to the people in the form of a tax cut. The American people are both clients and shareholders and should demand accountability by voting for, writing to, and protesting in front of their elected officials.
Some of the blog comments blame President Bush for the mess that President Obama inherited. If things appeared to be working well, would they say President Obama inherited a paradise instead of a mess? Of course not, they would say that it was President Obama that made everything wonderful.
The current state of our country is the result of past and present administrations / Congresses. The direction our country is taking now is a direct result of the current administration. Examine the policies put in place by the current administration and the proposed policies. Are the policies win win for everyone or does someone have to pay for someone else’s gain. Are we supposed to limit our choices to gain something. Are we told how to live, what to eat, what to drive or what to buy. Do we care more for the rights and sensibilities of non-citizens then we do for those of our own citizens. Do we promote our country as the best in the world or do we apologize for our country?
A well run business benefits everyone. A well run business provides opportunity for individuals to grow and realize their potential. A well run business/government serves its clients, owners and associates.
Jordan – you are right on with this one. There’s a bumper sticker out there that you need. It says: YOUR OBAMA STICKER MIGHT AS WELL SAY “YEAH, I’M STUPID!”
