I posted a blog last week in support of our client, Lane Bryant, and their fight against content censorship and discrimination against curvy women. While we strongly believe that this is fight that needed to be fought in the public eye, we had no idea just how big this thing would be.

Over the course of the past week, almost 2.5 million people have viewed the new spot, making it the most viewed spot on YouTube and the biggest viral video of the week, according to Ad Age. The story has been picked up by television shows and networks around the world, including The Today Show, The Early Show, CNN, The Tonight Show, The O’Reilly Factor and Saturday Night Live. It has been featured on hundreds if not thousands of blogs, not to mention one Tweet every 30 seconds at one point. That’s crazy!! Or is it?

I think it’s obvious by now that the world has been thrown a curve. The overwhelming support has been nothing short of astounding. Women around the country – the world even – have been given a voice. And their collective voice has been heard. There has been an outcry to embrace curvy, full-bodied women. There has been an outcry to showcase her in all of her beauty. And that means ALL OF HER BEAUTY, sexy lingerie included!!

Many of the stories surrounding the controversy continue to refer to Lane Bryant as the “plus-size store.” Everyone needs to wake up and realize they should be referring to it as the “curves are sexy store.” After all, the average American woman today is a size 14. Did you know Marilyn Monroe was actually a size 14?? And she’s one of the biggest sex symbols of all time!!

People are finally recognizing that women of all sizes have a right to look their very best. But it’s more than that. We have a responsibility to our children, especially young girls. We have a responsibility to make sure they know that beauty is more than skin deep…that there is no one established standard of beauty. Our daughters have a right to see commercials like this Lane Bryant spot. Too many young women today suffer from eating disorders. And we shouldn’t be surprised when most of the role models and celebrities they’re exposed to are a size two, or even zero. Many of them develop eating disorders because of the unrealistic way women are portrayed in the media.

Well, NO MORE!! Women everywhere have taken a stand. Women everywhere have told the world that Lane Bryant is right. Women everywhere have THROWN THE WORLD A CURVE!!
