Its great to hear you realize that JZ...there clearly needs to be a resurgence of 'old school' parenting that rewards 'real' achievement, and encourages those that miss the mark to work harder for the next opportunity...that's how my children are being raised.

Jordan , once again I absolutely agree and I wonder how long this will go on in our schools before the establishment ,society and parents realizes we are raising and supporting mediocracy at best in our children. I for one will not subscribe to this method of rearing a child and teach my 3 girls every day what it means to be a winner, what it means to be second best , but, most importantly, what it means to think you are a winner only one day to find out you were not ! Wow, what a Jungian thing ..... the duality of man and how it relates to winning and losing; I cant wait to read these studies 20 years from now. Let me project though.........................

So lets look 20 years down the road at todays " Trophy Kids " , depressed, low self-esteem, low self-worth, little to no sense of accomplishment, complacency, confused by what is real and what is not, lack of desire, no sense of real achievement , mis-guided expectations from authority, rebellious, confrontational, and most likely always searching for thier next handout ! Great Job Everyone, our children are so happy !!

Jordan, your'e right on point. My second oldest son holds a Masters Degree in Economics and receives his PHD in Statistics from FSU in April. He has been published in 3 Journals, is doing breakthrough research and teaches 2 classes at FSU as well. He is an academic and is applying for a position as a Professor at universities that have posted openings across the nation, Bucknell, LSU, Utah State, even West Point. Starting salaries are far below what you would expect. He called last night and said that he wants to move back home because moving to a new city for a $60K-$75k job seems rediculous. He said he could teach at a third tier universty (FGCU) which is nearby for a little less, live home and save $$. I suggested he continue on with his education, work on his Post Doctorite degree and continue his research. Hopefully prospects in the future will be brighter.
