For decades, Holocaust survivors have worked to keep this experience real for us. And now we see that, with the passing of time, their ranks are thinning. Someone must take up the duty of keeping their experience alive. In South Florida alone, there are over 12,000 survivors of the Holocaust, victims of unimaginable loss and tragedy. This weekend, I am dedicating our agency to the important duty of telling their story.

Whether they show up in movies, TV, or any other medium, advertising messages that are placed thoughtlessly defeat their own purpose. If they show no evidence of being part of any coherent brand strategy or if they're just jammed into places they obviously don't belong, they do more harm than good. If a message causes consumers to laugh at (not with) your brand, guess what? You've got a problem.

If you are going to ask in a job interview “what’s the work/life balance?” – DON’T. That's not the way the world works. You don't get balance in the beginning. You get sacrifice in the beginning ... if you want greatness at the end.

All through the years I was growing up, she made sure I believed in myself. She was the first one who told me that I should find my passion, that I should follow my dreams, that anything was possible for me. I owe her more than I could ever possibly say for sending me those important messages early and often, and for backing them up with her love. It's not just hard to pay back that kind of debt. It's impossible. But that's what they made Mother's Day for, right? So we could all at least make the effort.

The life lesson I picked up here was: Never let the media give you a predetermination of anyone. Judge people for yourself. And give everyone a fair shot. The old saying is true – you can’t judge a book by its cover…especially if the cover has been designed by someone who wants the book to fail.
