Now the question is: What brand message is Congressman Paul Ryan sending to the world about a Mitt Romney presidency? As I see it, he’s telling the American people that a Romney Administration would, unlike Obama, be willing to make dramatic, tough, and (let’s face it) unpopular choices to get this country’s fiscal house in order. He’s saying the Republicans are ready to have a debate about exactly what needs to get cut, and when, and why. I like that message.

If you still need evidence that the US government has been run for the past few years by someone who never actually operated a business, try this on for size: We just learned that Obama’s annual deficit for this year has come in at over one trillion dollars. Again. For the fourth straight year, the Federal government will run a budget deficit in excess of a trillion bucks.
Too many people believe Romney is removed from the concerns of everyday Americans. His VP choice, which may be announced soon, should address that problem. Independents are concerned that Romney is a little too smooth, a little too careful, a little too scripted — all supposedly signs that he is out of touch with what working people face in tough times.
