A Bunch of Losers

This competition was a cool way to emphasize the importance of fitness in the workplace (and everywhere else) … by turning healthy weight loss into a game… As a nation, we need to focus more on the ways we can make maintaining a healthy lifestyle more fun for everybody. I hope more organizations across the country follow this example and get their people engaged in healthy, sustainable weight management programs like our zBiggest Loser Challenge.

Impossible Is No Excuse


Take a moment to think about the events that really transformed and defined this nation. Were they easy to pull off? Of course not. I can think of three that (according to the experts at the time) shouldn’t have happened. They were impossible… “Impossible” is a word we use when we want permission to stop thinking about how to achieve an important goal. Permission denied. “Impossible” is no excuse.

Gung Ho

I can’t tell you how massive an impact this book had on our company. After reading Gung Ho, I appointed a guy to walk through the agency and pass out candy. His job was to have real conversations with people to see how they were doing, and to look in their eyes to see whether the “sparkle” was there … or gone. If the sparkle wasn’t so bright, I wanted to know about it, so I could figure out where the problem was and try to fix it.

You Sleep When You Die


Too many people sleepwalk through life, which I think is a crime. “When will this day be over?” “When will this meeting be over?” Your time is too precious for that. “You sleep when you die” means wake up, smell the coffee, and seize the day: your day. Sleepwalking through your life, isn’t living. TODAY is too damn good a day to sleep in. TODAY is a gift that won’t come again. So take advantage of it!

Complacency Sucks


Sometimes outsiders wonder why I am so insistent about not resting on our laurels at Zimmerman. The answer is really pretty simple: I refuse to let complacency kill a great agency. And as long as I am still above ground and breathing, it’s not going to… Complacency is an epidemic in our industry. And it is never, ever going to be the way we do business at Zimmerman.
