Toyota announced yesterday that they are recalling 2.3 million vehicles. The recall affects eight Toyota brands. As if that weren’t catastrophic enough, the automaker has also completely shut down the assembly line for these eight vehicles.
I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years in the automotive ad business. Check out my column in Ad Age to find out what Toyota must do immediately to fix the situation…before it’s too late.

Fox Business’ “Your Questions, Your Money” is a great show. It focuses on starting, owning, running and growing small business. Guests include business owners, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists telling their personal success stories, what worked, what didn’t work, etc. They also answer viewer’s questions about how they too can make it big!

The American Family Association (AFA) is calling for a boycott of Gap, Inc. and its brands (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic) that is scheduled to run through Christmas Day. The boycott is in response to the brand’s holiday ads that supposedly downplay the word ‘Christmas’ by failing to recognize any specific religion. The AFA is even planning to release a “Naughty and Nice” list of retailers this season, singling out those ‘nice’ retailers who address Christmas and those ‘naughty’ ones that don’t.
I could personally care less whether retailers make ads dedicated to Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa…or all of them for that matter. I’m not offended either way. The problem is, I’m in the minority…

Within the past couple of weeks, GM announced that it will start hearing pitches for select Chevrolet assignments and for Cadillac’s national and regional dealer accounts. Not long before that, VW announced that it was parting ways with Crispin after four years. Should we chalk up this rampant changing of the guard to tough economic times?
