You Sleep When You Die

The announcement that he was stepping down from the helm at Apple was not exactly unexpected, but it was still bad news for all of us who love and respect entrepreneurial visionaries who refuse to pretend that normal is good enough. One look at Jobs in his bow-tie back in the eighties was enough to convince anyone that this guy had very little to do with normal. Insane was more like it. Like Edison, like Ford, like Einstein, he was and is, thank God, just a little insane.

This is not just about writing checks, but about personally working hand and hand with a local school and local officials… Together, we are making a huge difference for the students.

What did we do without cell phones? Or the Internet? Or DVR’s? Or Facebook?

Technology has improved our lives in lots of ways. For one, it makes us more productive and more efficient than ever before. Right??

This is the last post in my “Ready or Not, Here It Comes” series. Every other post talked about changes already taking place that will fundamentally alter our way of life. This post, however, may be the most surprising…and scary.

We used to have no choice when it came to our phone provider. If we wanted to call people, we used our home phones. And we paid whatever astronomical charges the phone company charged. Local calls were reasonable. But long distance calls? Forget it!! When I moved to Florida as a teenager, it cost me an arm and a leg just to keep in touch with friends and family back home in New Jersey. Phone companies back then took advantage of you because they knew you didn’t have a choice…
