Florida: Kids in Distress

It is a national disgrace that 1100 students are homeless in Seminole County. That should not be happening. An eight-year-old girl shouldn’t have to go on national television and talk about being stuck in her car with her mom, her dad, two dogs, and a cat, praying that the family can somehow come up with enough money to get into a cheap hotel. One-quarter of our country’s kids should not be living in poverty. But they are. If you were moved, as I was, by the 60 Minutes report, I have two challenges for you.

Getting a great job ... In a job market that sucks

You don’t have to be an economist these days to see that there are a whole lot of good people out there in search of a limited number of good jobs. If the experts can be trusted, the economy has cratered, employers are wary of making any new hires, and the outlook for the future continues to be bleak for just about everyone.

Fortunately, the experts are dead wrong.

Exit Clause
Earlier this week I wrote about “success through infection.” In that blog, I said you cannot inspire people who are not already open to it. I think leaders that go on and on talking about the importance of inspiring people around them are full of crap. Instead, I look for INSPIRED, IGNITED people.

We try to make sure everyone we hire at Zimmerman is that type of person. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way.
